I have Broca's Aphasia

This condition is intermittent. 

It can appear suddenly during or after a focal seizure.

It may improve once the episode passes.

What this means

• I understand what you are saying.

• My thinking is intact.

• I may have difficulty producing speech.

• I may struggle with word-finding

• I may speak in short, effortful phrases.

• I may pause for a long time while searching for words.

• I may type more easily than I can speak.

What helps

• I may not be able to respond verbally.

• Please give me extra time to respond.

• Yes/no questions can be helpful.

• Writing, typing, or texting may be easier for me.

• If I stop speaking, I am still present and aware.
